Phetchaburi Rajabhat University

Phetchaburi Rajabhat University is a long-established higher education institution with a continuous development history spanning more than 90 years.

ESTABLISHED 1926 (B.E. 2469)

Its origins can be traced back to when it was initially founded as a Provincial Teacher Training School of Agriculture in U Ruea Subdistrict, Ratchaburi Province.

Subsequent historical records confirm that the institution was formally established on 27 March 1925 (B.E. 2468) at the former Wat Tha Kho (abandoned temple) along the Mae Klong River. Since then, the institution has undergone continuous transformation and development as outlined below:

1927 (B.E. 2470)​

The institution relocated to Phra Ram Ratchaniwet Palace (Ban Puen Palace) in Ban Mo Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province, and officially admitted students for teacher training beginning on 1 April.

1933 (B.E. 2476)

The institution was upgraded to a Basic Teacher Training School and was renamed Phetchaburi Provincial Certificate Teacher Training School in the following year.

1938 (B.E. 2481)​

The school was moved to Wat Ketu area in Tha Rap Subdistrict, Mueang District, Phetchaburi Province.

1942 (B.E. 2485)​

The name changed to Phetchaburi Basic Teacher Training School, offering training for community teachers.

1948 (B.E. 2491)​

The curriculum for community teachers was discontinued, and the name changed to Phetchaburi Teacher Training School.

1963 (B.E. 2506)​

The institution moved to Na Wang Subdistrict, Mueang District, on over 200 rai of land, which is the current campus.

1969 (B.E. 2512)

The institution began offering a Higher Certificate in Education and was upgraded to Phetchaburi Teachers College on May 1.

28 (1)

1976 (B.E. 2519)​

The institution was granted higher education status under the Teachers College Act B.E. 2518 (1975).

1992 (B.E. 2535)​

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously granted the name “Rajabhat Institute” on February 14.

1995 (B.E. 2538)​

The institution became Phetchaburi Rajabhat Institute under the Rajabhat Institutes Act of 1995.

2004 (B.E. 2547)​

The institution was elevated to university status and became Phetchaburi Rajabhat University under the 2004 Rajabhat University Act by royal command.

2007-2010 (B.E. 2550)​

The university expanded to 60 undergraduate programs, 13 master’s programs, and 3 doctoral programs.
International collaboration programs were established with institutions in China, including Guangxi Nationalities University and Yunnan Minzu University.

2007 (B.E. 2550)​

The university offered 35 four-year undergraduate programs and 14 five-year undergraduate programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
It also offered 1 graduate diploma in teacher professional education and 6 master’s degree programs, totaling 56 academic programs. PBRU focused on optimizing academic programs, maintaining 53–56 degree offerings and ensuring alignment with national qualification frameworks.

2008 (B.E. 2551)​

The university maintained 60 undergraduate, 13 master’s, and 3 doctoral programs.
It continued student exchange programs with Guangxi University for Nationalities, Dongfang Foreign Language College, Guangxi International Business College, and Yunnan Minzu University.
Students from these partner institutions enrolled in a 1-year Thai language certificate course and a 2-year bachelor’s program in Thai language.

2009 (B.E. 2552)​

The university offered 42 undergraduate programs, 13 master’s programs, and 3 doctoral programs.
It established exchange programs with Xiangsihu College of Guangxi University for Nationalities, Yunnan Minzu University, Guangxi University of Foreign Languages, Southwest Forestry University, and Qujing Normal University.
Chinese students studied in a 1-year Thai language certificate program (3+1) and a 2-year Thai language bachelor’s program.
Thai students from PBRU studied Chinese language for one year at those partner universities beginning in academic year 2012.
In addition, student internship exchanges in hospitality were conducted with Taiwanese institutions including
National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, Chung Chuo University of Science and Technology, Transworld University, Shih Chien University, and Dayeh University, starting in academic year 2013. Thai students interned in Taiwan for 2 months while Taiwanese students trained in hotels in the Cha-am–Hua Hin area for 2–6 months.
In the same year, PBRU established its Demonstration School to provide lower and upper secondary education, officially starting on February 15, 2010.

2010 (B.E. 2553)​

The university offered 52 undergraduate programs, 13 master’s programs, and 3 doctoral programs.

2011 (B.E. 2554)​

The university offered 49 undergraduate programs, 13 master’s programs, 3 doctoral programs, and 1 graduate diploma program.

2012 (B.E. 2555)​

The university offered 45 undergraduate programs, 6 master’s programs, 1 doctoral program, totaling 52 programs.
These included professionally accredited programs:
13 by the Teachers Council of Thailand, 2 by the Council of Engineers, 1 by the Thai Bar Association, 1 by the Council of Thai Traditional Medical Professions, and 1 by the Federation of Accounting Professions.
All programs adhered to the Thai Qualifications Framework (TQF).

2013 (B.E. 2556)​

The university offered 49 undergraduate programs, 13 master’s programs, 3 doctoral programs, and 1 graduate diploma program.
In the same year, the University Council approved the establishment of the Faculty of Nursing.
The first cohort of 70 nursing students was admitted in academic year 2014.
The university expanded its international partnerships to 20 institutions, including 7 in China, 4 in Taiwan, 1 in Cambodia, 2 in Lao PDR, 2 in Vietnam, 2 in Malaysia, 1 in Indonesia, and 1 in Brunei.
These partnerships supported student and faculty exchanges, curriculum development, cultural research, scientific material development, and publication exchanges.
PBRU expanded partnerships with institutions in Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei, promoting student and faculty exchanges, curriculum development, cultural research, and hospitality internships.

2014 (B.E. 2557)​

The Faculty of Nursing was officially established, admitting its first cohort of 70 students.
International partnerships grew to 20 institutions across Asia.
In academic year 2015, the university offered 51 undergraduate programs, 6 master’s programs, 1 doctoral program, and 1 professional teaching diploma program.

2016 (B.E. 2559)​

In academic year 2016, the university offered 45 undergraduate programs, 6 master’s programs, 1 doctoral program, and 1 professional teaching diploma program.
The university continued curriculum development and deepened international collaborations. Each year, PBRU offered 45–65 degree programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
Several programs received accreditation from professional bodies, including the Teachers Council of Thailand, Council of Engineers, and the Thai Traditional Medical Council.

2017 – 2018 (B.E. 2560 – 2561)

The university offered 43 four-year undergraduate programs and 15 five-year undergraduate programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
It also offered 1 graduate diploma in teacher professional education and 6 master’s degree programs, totaling 65 academic programs.

2019 (B.E. 2562)​

The university offered 44 four-year undergraduate programs and 14 five-year undergraduate programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
It also offered 1 graduate diploma in teacher professional education and 6 master’s degree programs, totaling 65 academic programs.

2020 (B.E. 2563)​

The university offered 35 four-year undergraduate programs and 14 five-year undergraduate programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
It also offered 1 graduate diploma in teacher professional education and 6 master’s degree programs, totaling 56 academic programs.
PBRU focused on optimizing academic programs, maintaining 53–56 degree offerings and ensuring alignment with national qualification frameworks.

2021 (B.E. 2564)​

The university offered 32 four-year undergraduate programs and 14 five-year undergraduate programs across eight faculties:
Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Science, Engineering and Industrial Technology, Information Technology, Agricultural Technology, and Nursing.
It also offered 1 graduate diploma in teacher professional education and 6 master’s degree programs, totaling 53 academic programs.
